On September 4-5, 2003, the Colorado West Slope APWA held its annual Snow & Ice Conference and Equipment Roadeo at the Gunnison County Fairgrounds. City and County road maintenance workers from around the state were on hand to operate the heavy equipment to see who would be this year’s Big Winners.

More than 325 participants, sponsors and exhibitors spent a day and a half at the APWA West Slope branch sponsored event. Lecture presentations coupled with hands-on equipment operation make this a popular local conference each year.

The Equipment “Roadeo” held six skills tests offered for competition that simulated different on-the-job situations like plowing streets, operating a loader in tight situations, intricately operating the grader blade, backhoe operations, and more. First place finishers were presented with personalized coats, with second place finishers receiving personalized vests. Third place winners in each event received belt buckles. (See list of winners below.)

Pro Roadeo Skills Competition Winners

Congratulations to all the recent and past winners of the competition. If there was a “Roadeo” Hall of Fame, I'm sure all of these winners would be worthy of induction! This event has been held annually for over 15 years. This year's event will be held Sept. 9-10.
